Freddie Smithies, our Kids Sew teacher, really enjoys sharing her love of sewing with the next generations -- and the kids love learning from her. She has developed some very creative, fun classes to teach them basic sewing skills while they make exciting projects they’ll be proud to show their friends. Sewing is an excellent confidence builder, and a skill they will use the rest of their lives.
Kids Sew… Sewing for Beginners: Vest
This is a 2-part class designed to teach each student how to read, cut out and sew a project using a pattern. We will be making a vest with rick-rack trim. If you took the skirt class, you could make this vest to match. If you didn’t, you can make it unique to wear with lots of outfits.
Sew Fundamental
Learn the fundamentals of sewing as you create this handy bag to carry your sewing notions. Seams, seam finishes, facings, edgestitching, buttonholes, a button and zipper are all part of this project designed to familiarize you with both your sewing machine and sewing in general. No sewing experience necessary!

Embroidery Software*: Creating a Label Digitizing with extra small fonts can be difficult, but Michele will teach you the tricks needed to make perfect labels. You will hand digitize lettering and add embroidery designs to customize your own label.

Embroidery Software*: Butterflies and Ladybugs We will create a cutwork butterfly and an applique ladybug with embroidered details. Come and learn the techniques the pros use to create amazing embroidery designs.

Embroidery Software*: Feathers and Fur Feathers and fur are some of the most interesting digitizing techniques. These techniques make designs that really become dimensional. Learn how to create fur and feathers using the long and short stitch techniques to create texture.

Pirate Monkey Quilt Make a fun child’s quilt, 39-1/2” x 49-1/2”, featuring Michele’s Little Monkey Pirate Pals designs (available from Michele). The quilt is made with an applique island and applique waves, and is completed with machine embroidery. This is a three-part class. Instructor: Michele Mishler
